Engineering and Surveying
E.D. Pons and Associates provided the structural engineering services for a new 65 forward facility in Kingston, PA. The facility included extensive renovations to the existing building, a new addition at the front and sides of the structure, and a new entrance canopy.
The existing building was a combination of wood and steel framing. The structure was originally constructed in the 1050’s as a drive-in restaurant. Since then it has gone through multiple renovations. It was finally converted to a Geisinger clinic in the 1990’s. Due to the multiple renovations there were significant challenges in attempting to reconfigure the existing structure. Additionally, a significant portion of the previous renovations had to be repaired to meet the current building code. Steel framing was designed to support the new canopy and the addition at the front of the building. Several of the interior bearing walls were replaced with steel studs and steel framing to meet the requirements of the program. Additionally, the exterior walls were repaired because they were not adequately connected to the existing structure.
