E.D. Pons and Associates provided the structural engineering services for an addition to the existing performing arts center at Millersville University.Start A Project With Us
The addition includes a new main entry and lobby, 300 seat concert hall, recital/ rehearsal hall, art gallery, recording studio, offices, classrooms, and other studios. Significant interior modifications are being made to the existing concert hall and studios.
The new construction is a steel-framed building that is independent of the existing building. Designing the new structure to be independent from the existing one prevented the owner from incurring the cost of upgrading the existing building to meet the lateral force requirements of the current building code. The proposed usage of the building required that sections of the structure be isolated to prevent sound transfer between areas of the building. In addition, the exterior walls and roof structure had to be designed to enhance sound within the concert hall and practice areas.
