Steel-Frameed Construction

The new construction is a steel-framed building that is independent of the existing building. Designing the new structure to be independent from the existing one prevented the owner from incurring the cost of upgrading the existing building to meet the lateral force requirements of the current building code. The proposed usage of the building required that sections of the structure be isolated to prevent sound transfer between areas of the building. In addition, the exterior walls and roof structure had to be designed to enhance sound within the concert hall and practice areas.
